BLACK SOCIAL HISTORY

C Carla Campbell
A Jamaican beauty, style and grace
I featured Carla Campbell in my top 30 most famous Jamaican. I know that I might be getting some stick, but quite honestly, I think she deserves it.
Jamaica's Carla Campbell
She has made our little rock shines even brighter.
Carla, a celebrated fashion model was born here in Jamaica in 1981. She is notable with sharing the rare attribute, along with a select few fellow models like Marisa Miller for her large natural breasts on a very toned, fit, athletic overall body.
She received her most widespread exposure appearing in the 2006 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, being the first model from the Caribbean region to appear in the highly popular edition. Moreover, she is only the second model from the Caribbean to do Victoria's Secret
Carla's international career began in the late 1990s when she placed fifth in the Pulse Model Search, but it was in 2004 that her relatively dormant career was revamped.
Armed with a personal trainer and a new agency in IMG in New York- the same agency that represents supermodels Alek Wek, Tyra Banks and Liya Kebede. Carla's makeover was not in vain, however. She has since snagged a campaign for Eastern Caribbean's Bounty Rum and has become a model spokesperson for the brand.
Carla Campbell counts among her clients L'Oreal, Nike, Avon, Seventeen magazine, Footlocker, Miller Beer, Maxim, Target and Fubu. She is also on option for Vogue and Valentino.
Carla:
Carla isn’t your typical Eurotrash model. Rather than beginning her day by sweeping aside last night’s collection of champagne bottles, she starts by repeating the simple phrase:
"Keep the faith. Fear’s not an option for me."
In keeping with her optimistic outlook on life, her favorite word is zeen. "It's Jamaican and means everything is all right or understood," she happily explains.
Despite her obvious natural buoyancy, Carla is far from naïve. "I am aware of the dynamics of the profession I've chosen," she admits, "but, thankfully, I'm not exposed to many of the much talked about negatives and steer clear of bad company."
With an attitude like that there’s no telling how far Carla can go.
"Wi proud a you girl!" Keep on doing what you're doing Carla.
