BLACK SOCIAL HISTORY: RACIAL PERCEPTION IN JAPAN - STEREOTYPING OF BLACKS:

Out right racism is rare in Japan, because Japanese are well educated and consider racism to be a bad thing. Yet Japanese also hold a national pride, like people of most countries.  More to the point, most haven't met with foreigners, or have done so only to a very limited extent and so it is easy for stereotypes to prevail. On a positive note, there are few outspoken or violent racist in Japan as there are only limited numbers of Black People in Japan. Most foreigners in Japan are there on a temporary bases, they are treated as being outside society and have small group small enough to be safely ignored most of the time.
