BLACK SOCIAL HISTORY : ARCHIE MOORE - LIGHT HEAVY WEIGHT CHAMPION - GOES INTO THE " HALL OF BLACK GENIUS "

Archie Moore - born Archibald Lee Wright on December 13th 1916  and died 9th December 1998, was an African American Professional Boxer and the Light Heavy Weight World Champion. Moore held the record for the most career knock outs 131.  He was World Champion from December 1952 to May 1962 who had one of the longest professional careers in the history of the sports. Nicked named " The Old Mongoose " he rank 4 on  " The Rings List of 100 greatest punches of all time, has the longest reign in Light Heavy weight history and is rated by prominent boxing Website.  BoxRec as the greatest pound for pound boxer of all time.

Moore was born in Benoit, Mississippi but Moore was raised in St Louis, Missouri. An important figure in the African American community he has become involved in African American causes after his boxing days were over.  He also established him self as a successful character actor in television and films. More died in his adopted city of San Diego, California. Moore often found him self in trouble as a youngster and was in a reformatory until 1934, in 1936 he began is boxing career with nine fights as a boxer winning five fights and losing four. He also claimed to have boxed under the name of " Fourth of July Kid ". so he may have even more fights. He turned professional in 1938 and boxed all but one of his bouts that year in San Deigo. Moore made a tour of Australia winning all his fights in Australia.
