                               BLACK              SOCIAL         HISTORY                                                                                                                                                                                                       Charles Alfonzo Beamon (born December 25, 1934) is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Baltimore Orioles from 1956 to 1958. He made his major league debut on September 26, 1956, pitching a complete game shutout against theNew York Yankees.

Besides, he played from 1953 through 1961 for eight different teams in nine Minor league seasons, going 89-69 with a 3.76 earned run average in 226 pitching appearances.

Beamon also pitched for the Leones del Caracas of the Venezuelan Winter League in the 1957–1958 season. He posted a 9-6 record with 55 strikeouts and a 2.49 ERA in 130.0 innings, leading the league in ERA, while tying with Magallanes' Ramón Monzant for the most wins.

He is the father of Charlie Beamon, Jr., a former major league first baseman who played for the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays.
