First parade ever for Regiment handing-over ceremony

For the first time in the history of the T&T Regiment, a parade was held for the handing-over ceremony of the Command Sergeant Major (CSM). This was revealed Friday via a press release from the Defence Force. 

In the release it was noted that on Thursday, the Regiment’s Commanding Officer, Colonel Rodney Smart handed over the Command Pace Stick to CSM Warrant Officer Class 1(WO1), Dereck Mc Clean from retired Warrant Officer Coreen Bernard-Small. 

WO1 Bernard-Small joined the Regiment on April 12, 1983, and throughout her professional career, she has ensured that an indelible mark was left at every step. At the beginning of her career, on successful completion of her Recruit training, she was awarded the Best Recruit Female and Fittest Recruit Female. 

WO1 Bernard-Small demonstrated her commitment and dedication to service through her many accomplishments and achievements which include, first female Parade Sergeant Major at the Opening of Parliament Friday 18th June, 2010; First female Drill Sergeant Major on the Independence Day Parade in Tobago in 2010; First Female Parade Sergeant Major on the 50th Independence Day Anniversary Parade in Trinidad; First Female Command Sergeant Major, a position held for 3 years,” the release revealed. 

And for her “immense contributions” to the development of the Defence Force, the Regiment wished to publicly thank WO1 Bernard-Small, and wish her a blessed retirement, and that she be reassured that her legacy has been etched into the history of the Regiment and will always serve as an inspiration. 

“The Commanding Officer, Officers, Members of the Warrants Officers and Sergeants Mess, Other Ranks, Men and Women of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment welcome the incoming Command Sergeant Major, 8686 Warrant Officer Class 1 Dereck McClean as Command Sergeant Major and offer full support in the execution of his duties,”
