Saraland, AL – Jackie Tucker, an officer with the Saraland Police Department has been shot this morning. The suspect in the shooting has been killed.
The shooting of a Saraland police officer took place on Martha Alleyn Drive in Saraland, Alabama, just before 11a.m. on Wednesday. The location is off of Celeste Road, near the 15 mile-marker exit on Interstate 65. Saraland sits in Northern Mobile County, a city in Southwest Alabama. Officer Tucker of the Saraland Police Department, was responding to a domestic when the incident occurred. According to Mobile District Attorney Ashley Rich, officer Tucker has been shot in the head. According to officials, the incident stemmed from a domestic violence call between 27-year-old Matthew Blake Richardson and his grandfather. Officers are reported to have been to this location before. Richardson eluded the police during a short pursuit before being captured. The suspect was shot during the incident and has died as a result of his injuries. A Lifeflight helicopeter responded to the shooting scene in Saraland in under 15 minutes to transport the officer who is also listed in critical but stable condition. District Attorney Rich confirmed that Jackie Tucker is a veteran Saraland police officer and is married to an officer on the Mobile Police Department. Tucker has been airlifted to the USA Medical Center in Mobile, Alabama.
The city of Saraland has a population of just over 13,000 with a department of 38 officers. There has been one reported murder in the city from 2003-2014. The Alabama State Police, Mobile County Police, Chickasaw and Satsuma officials are all on scene assisting Saraland officers.
