BLACK SOCIAL HISTORY : BRIGADIER GENERAL DARRYL A. WILLIAMS AFRICAN AMERICAN UNITED STATED MILITARY GENERAL : GOES INTO THE " HALL OF BLACK GENIUS "






























Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Field Artillery upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1983 and the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, BG Williams served as an executive officer, and fire direction officer in the 1st Battalion, 76th Field Artillery, and platoon leader and assistant operations officer in 1st Battalion, 10th Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.
Upon completion of the Field Artillery Officer Advance Course, he served as an assistant operations officer for the XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery and battery commander for the 3rd Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Bragg, NC, during which he deployed to South West Asia in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
He earned a MA in leadership development at the United States Military Academy, and then served as the I-2 Company Tactical Officer, United States Corps of Cadets. He completed the Command and General Staff College and the School of Advanced Military Studies at Fort Leavenworth, KS earning a MMAS degree.
Brigadier General Williams next assignments included G-3 plans officer on the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) staff; operations officer for the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery, Fort Hood, Texas; Army Aide to the President of the United States, 1998-2000 and commander 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery in 4ID, Fort Hood, Texas. Upon completion of command, he served as the Fourth Regimental Tactical officer at West Point, NY.
After earning a Master of Science degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, RI, he was assigned as the Chief of Exercises, G-3 for USAREUR, in Heidelberg, Germany. Brigadier General Williams then commanded 1st Armored Division Artillery in Baumholder, Germany and after two years of command, he inactivated the DIVARTY, and deployed to Iraq in support of OIF with 1st Armored Division, as the Fires and Effects Coordinator. Upon redeployment, he served as the Deputy Director for Comprehensive Soldier Fitness, HQDA G-3/5/7.
Brigadier General Darryl A. Williams most recently served as the Commanding General, U.S. Army Warrior Transition Command and the Assistant Surgeon General for Warrior Care and Transition and is now the Deputy Commanding General for Support, 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of Korea.
He is married with three children.
