                                   BLACK                 SOCIAL              HISTORY                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Gloria Davy  March 29, 1931 – November 28, 2012  was a Brooklyn-born African-American opera singer. In 1958, Davy became the first black artist to sing in Aida at the New York Metropolitan Opera. Davy, a Lirico-spinto, received a positive reception from the audience, and provided a breakthrough to drawing attention to black classical singers. She performed there regularly for three years, including The Magic Flute, Pagliacci, and Il











Trovatore.
