Biography:
ANDREW KOONCE
Andrew Koonce, age 15, is a very gifted,exceptional, advanced violinist who has been already recognized for his remarkable achievements. An ninth grader at the famed Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Andrew recently won highest honor of being named Concertmaster of the Georgia All State 6- 8th Grade Orchestra in Savannah, Georgia in March. He led the orchestra in the concerts there.
For over three years, Andrew has been a violin student of Sonja Foster of Atlanta, a Juilliard and Curtis alumni, who specializes in teaching the most serious, gifted young violinists. He has progressed from the early works on the violin to the advanced violin concerti, perfoming several times a year on recitals.
In 2011 and 2012 Andrew had the honor of being accepted into the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. He has been Concertmaster of the Woodward Academy Middle School Orchestra for four years. From 2009- 2011, Andrew was Principal Second and then Assistant Concertmaster of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra.
In 2010-2011, He won the Festival Disney Best Concert Artist Award. Andrew attended the University of Georgia Summer Music Institute and was associate Principal Second violin. In 2007 and 2008, Andrew was Concertmaster of the ASTA Summer Music Camp.
While classical music and developing as a violinist is a great love for Andrew, he does have a variety of interests. He is currently a Fernbank Museum Volunteer, a coin collector and a youth member of the Civil Air Patrol. He also is very interested in science and politics.
