BLACK SOCIAL HISTORY Doc Rogers dies..Kenema health workers down tools
Dr. Sahr Jimmy Rogers Functions at the Ebola Case Management Centre and the entire Government hospital in Kenema, came to a halt last Saturday when a nurse who was serving that centre was pronounced dead.
Her death came few hours after that of Dr. Sahr Jimmy Rogers, who was the only Physician serving the Government Hospital in the district, who died on Saturday morning.
The death of the nurse Hawa Rogers, came in the wake of non-payment of the weekly risk allowance of Le 250,000 to all the staff in the Ebola unit.
The aggrieved workers abandoned the entire hospital compound and there was no nurse to render assistance to patients at the unit, and even corpses were abandoned in the wards.
A Medical Superintendent, Dr. Christian Pratt, disclosed that he had some monies to effect some payment but he can only do so, through the approval of the Kenema District Ebola Task Force.
Dr Pratt further disclosed that the Task Force had instructed him earlier to stop all payments until the list is verified.
As we go to press, drastic efforts have been made to ensure that the workers receive their risk allowance, inorder that effective work will resume today.
