Domenico Mondelli , born Wolde Selassie ( Asmara , June 30, 1886 - Rome , 13 December 1974 ), was a military and aviatorItalian origin tigrina .
Highly decorated officer of the Royal Army during the First World War , which belongs to the specialties sharpshooters , from 1915 to 1917 he fought as an airman departmental reconnaissance and bombing of the Aeronautical Military Corps, later moving to the land departments of the front line, where he particularly distinguished himself in the head XXXIII assault Department "Crimson Flames" and then of the first battalion of 242º infantry Regiment "Teramo" . After the war he was sent to Albania at the head of the ninth assault battalion, earning the third bronze medal for military valor. Subject to discrimination with the coming to power of the fascist regime left the military life in 1925.

Biograpy 
He was born on June 30, 1886 at ' Asmara in Eritrea , ethnic tigrina was adopted [2] in 1891 by Colonel Parma Attilio Mondelli during the retreat in Eritrea following the defeat of Adua , during the course of the Abyssinian War . Brought in Italy , in October 1900 he attended the Military College in Rome and then move on to the Royal Military Academy of Modena . [1] Uscitone with the patent of lieutenant in 1905 , is assigned to the infantry , specialty sharpshooters . [1] Presta service initially in the 5th Regiment , then moved in succession to the 7th , 8th and 2nd . Passionately aviation supports the achieve the patent pilot conferred by theFédération Aéronautique Internationale on 20 February 1914 . [1]
With the entry into the war of Italy, on 24 May 1915 , he fought as a Captain in the Aviation Battalion file by running numerous reconnaissance missions, even low altitude, which earned him the award of a Bronze medal for military valor .
He was in command of the 7th Bombardment Squadron (Caproni) from its establishment 18 February 1916 framed in theAeronautical Military Corps , [3] From the next one in April formed the Group IV [3] available to the Supreme Command that we used Airline Caproni Ca.3 to bomb Slovenia and Venezia Giulia Austrian [4] . From July 14 to 25 [5] 1917 was in command of the XI Group, [3] consists of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th and 15th Squadron Caproni, then move on to the command of the 67th Battalion of the18th Regiment riflemen , [6 ] remained there until September 30, 1917. on October 10, with the rank of major , assumed command of the XXXIII assault Department "Crimson Flames" of the newly established daring specialties, May 1, 1918, with the rank of lieutenant colonel assumed the the command of the battalion of the 242nd infantry Regiment of the Brigade "Teramo" which took part in the battle of the Solstice was wounded, and was replaced at the head of the battalion from parigrado Umberto Albano. After the war ended, decorated a total of two Silver Medals [7] and two bronze [7] for bravery and awarded the title of Knight of the Order of the Crown of Italy , replaced Lt. Col. John the Messe head of the Department IX assault, which was used in Albania where he earned his third bronze medal. [8]
With the coming to power of the fascist regime was the subject of discrimination, and left the Royal Army in the course of 1925 because it had been blocked to promotion toColonel , entering in the reserve role. [1]
After World War II he lived in Rome in via Milazzo in the neighborhood of ' Appio Latino until death, and also appeared in a documentary about Africans in Italy [9] .
His military career shooting even in the role of riseva with the proclamation of the Italian Republic, promoted brigadier general ( 1959 ), the division ( 1963 ), the army corps (1968 ) [1] and was awarded the title of Grand Officer Order of merit of the Italian Republic on 10 June 1970 by decision of the "motu proprio" of the President of the Republic Giuseppe Saragat . [1] He died in Rome at the ' Celio military Hospital , 13 December 1974. [1]

In 1912 he entered Freemasonry in the Lodge Strict Observance of Palermo and in 1919 joined the Masonic degree of Master Free Murator In 1919 he reached the rank ofMaster Free Murator always in Palermo Freemasonry, [10] . in 1925 he was forced to leave the Freemasons because of fascism and retired from the military career. Resumed his Masonic activities in Rome in 1944 by subscribing to lodge "Spartacus" always the Grand Orient of Italy and in 1956 was awarded the 33th degree ( the great ruler Inspector General ) of the ancient Scottish Rite and accepted which had joined before the fascist dictatorship . [10]
