Maxine Williams is the Global Director of Diversity of Facebook. In this role, she develops strategies to harness the unlimited potential of Facebook's talent while managing a high-performing team of diversity program managers.
"For Facebook, diversity is imperative to our future growth," she told USA Today's Jessica Guynn. "If we don't get it right, we risk losing relevance in an incredibly diverse world."
“I did come from a people who, through the pressures of slavery and indentureship, developed a faith in achieving the impossible along with a particularly high tolerance for risk. The adage that is often heard in Trinidad is “just try a ting!” In other words, assume no limit to your potential to overcome obstacles and give every challenge your best shot,” she wrote on LeanIn.org.
Prior to Facebook, she served as the Director of Diversity for a multinational law firm White & Case LLP., responsible for developing and implementing the firm’s global diversity plan and for providing strategic leadership in consultation with the Global Executive Partner and Global Diversity Committee.
She has served as host, producer, interviewer and anchor of numerous TV shows in the U.S., Trinidad, Jamaica and Barbados covering issues of legal, social, cultural and political importance. Expert guest on Court TV (now TruTV) covering trials where issues of human rights issues at stake. Host of various BET cultural programs.
Ms. Williams was a practicing attorney at Chancery Chambers in Melbourne, Australia from 2000 - 2006. She took part in numerous industrial, civil, criminal and public interest cases. Delivered arguments before juries, single judges and panels while representing a variety of clients at every level including appeals to the court of highest jurisdiction - the Privy Council in London.
She also served as a lecturer at the University of the West Indies and was a Senior Manager Caribbean Human Rights Network.
Ms. Williams serves as a Board Director at Massy Group of Companies, one of the Caribbean basin's largest conglomerates. Composed of over 60 companies, providing a variety of products and services, including retail, insurance, automotive, information technology, energy, and industrial equipment.
Ms. Williams is a graduate of St. Joseph's Convent, Port of Spain, Yale University and Oxford University where she received her law degree with first-class honours while attending as a Rhodes Scholar.
