BLACK          SOCIAL           HISTORY                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Joleon Lescott is a centre back of Manchester City. He was born on 16 August 1982 in Birmingham, England.
Joleon spent his youth in the Wolverhampton Wanderers academy, where he was a trainee and took an active part in the youth team life.
In 2000 Lescott was offered to join the first team and sign a professional contract. He accepted the offer and played as a regular from 2000. The young back started to appear in the first team almost from the very first season, showing wonderful and confident play in the centre of the defense. From 2000 till 2006 Joleon made 169 appearances for the club and scored eight goals.
In 2006 Lescott was noticed by Everton. The club wanted to see Joleon as a regular, so they offered good contract terms to the back and a sum of £5 million to Wolverhampton with additional conditions. All parties soon agreed on the deal and Joleon signed the contract that presumed he would play till 2009. During three years with the new club, Lescott was a regular and took part in 113 games, netting 14 goals.
In 2009 Joleon received another offer. Manchester City wanted to sign him for a long term. Lescott was for a new stage of his career and wanted to continue his development, so he decided to sign a five-year contract with the club. The transfer cost £22 million, which was a very substantial financial help for Everton. At the beginning Lescott did not start often, but then he became the key player of the defense, sometimes substituted by other high-class backs of the team in order to keep fit. From 2009 Joleon made 71 appearances and found the net six times. Nowadays Lescott continues his fruitful performance for the club.
Joleon took part in matches of the England national U-17, U-18, U-20 and U-21 football teams and once played for the England B team. From 2007 Joleon Lescott made 20 appearances for the senior national squad and contributed one goal.
