BLACK SOCIAL HISTORY : AFRICAN AMERICAN " SANDRA BAKER " ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF FOR THE CLARK COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT IN THE STAT OF NEVADA : GOES INTO THE " HALL OF BLACK GENIUS "

Chief Sandra Baker was educated in Colorado where she attended Pike's Peak College and the University of Colorado.
Chief Baker began her fire service career in 1989 as a communications specialist for the Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Department. She joined the Clark County Fire Department in February 1991 as a fire inspector. In September 1998, she was promoted to deputy fire marshal and in January 2001, she was promoted to assistant fire chief.
Chief Baker is the first African American female in the Clark County Fire Department to hold each of these positions and also is the first African American chief officer for the state of Nevada.
