Former JDF chief appointed acting permanent secretary

FORMER Chief of Defence Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force Major General Stewart Saunders has been appointed acting permanent secretary in the Ministry of National Security.

Saunders will be replacing Dr Ann-Marie Barnes, who was just last May appointed to the position after her promotion from chief technical advisor in the ministry.

Dr Barnes' new appointment is yet to be disclosed.

Security Minister Dr Peter Bunting, making the disclosure during his contribution to the 2013/14 Sectoral Debate at Gordon House in Kingston yesterday, said Major General Saunders will next Monday take up the post as acting permanent secretary in the ministry.

"I want to acknowledge my outgoing Permanent Secretary Dr Ann-Marie Barnes who is being transferred to another responsibility after one year in the ministry and has made a sterling contribution. As of Monday, my acting permanent secretary will be Retired Major General Stewart Saunders," Bunting said in passing reference.
Dr Barnes had replaced former Permanent Secretary Diane McIntosh at the time of her appointment.

Major General Saunders became the chief of defence staff of the JDF in October, 2006 and demitted office on October 9, 2010. He spent a total of 37 years in the force.
