BLACK SOCIAL HISTORY: SLAVERY IN CANADA :

Slavery existed in Canada in the 1830's when slavery was officially abolished, some slaves were of African, descent, while others were aboriginal. Slavery which was practice within Canada was practice primarily by aboriginal groups, while there was never any significant Canada trade in African slaves, native nations frequently enslaved their rivals and a very modest number were purchased by colonial administrators  until 1833 when the slave was abolished across the British Empire. A few African Slaves were forcibly brought as chattel by European  to New France, Acadia and later British North America.

They were house servants and farm workers. There was no large scale plantations in Canada and therefore no large scale plantations in Canada  and large no large scale slave work force of the sort that existed in most European colonies in Americas from Virginia to the West Indies to Brazil. Because early Canada's role in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade was so minor that history of slavery in Canada is over shadows by the more tumultuous slavery practice else were in the America - most famously in the American South and infamously in the colonial Caribbean. Slavery in Canada is the best kept secret locked away in the National Chest.
