Col. Barbara Lynne Owens was promoted to brigadier general last week in a ceremony at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
A Mississippi native, Owens is an Army Reserve officer and was originally commissioned into the Signal Corps in 1985. She has served as a member of the Army's Adjutant General Corps nearly 27 years.
Owens has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, a master's in Human Resources from Webster University, and a master of strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.
Owens currently serves at Fort Knox, Kentucky, as the deputy commanding general for the Army Human Resources Command, which is responsible for the career management, sustainment, distribution and transition of military personnel. Prior to that, Owens was the executive officer for the deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Reserve Command.
