KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Classmates of Kathia Casseus want answers after the 16-year-old was found unresponsive inside her holding cell at the Jackson County Detention Center over the weekend.

The teen was attending Grand view High School until she withdrew from the district in August.

Jeremy Kinsey, a junior at Grand view, said he was shocked when he found out.

"Back in seventh grade, we went to summer school together and that's where I really knew her from. She was just cool; she was a cool person. She was always happy, joyful and all that you know, smiling," said Jeremy.

Mylisa Holley also talked about her classmate after school Tuesday.

"I seen her in the hallways. We talked like every once in a while, but it's sad that she died," said Mylisa.

According to the police report, she told staff members she was dizzy and felt hot. At one point Kathia even screamed "I can't breathe."

Her classmates said that's what concerns them the most.

"When a teenager or someone around that age complains and it's something about health, they should be watched," said Latriece Moffett, a senior at Grandview High School.

"Yeah, they should have checked on her if she said she was hot," explained Mylisa.
