BLACK SOCIAL HISTORY Brig. Gen. Kaffia “Belle” Jones was appointed as Deputy Commanding General for the 335th Signal Command (Theater), on September 18, 2012. In this role, she executes the command’s dual missions in providing critical communications and information services in support of forces in Southwest Asia; and Homeland Defense operations as directed by the United States Army Reserve Command.
Brig.
Gen. Jones joined the U.S. Army as an enlisted Soldier in the
Quartermaster Corps in 1976. She was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant
into the U.S. Army National Guard in 1980, and assigned as a Signal
Platoon Leader for Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade,
40th Infantry Division (Mechanized), San Jose, California.
Her
36-year military career includes diverse assignments in communications,
administration and operations as well as company, battalion, brigade,
and theater level command. She served for two years as Director, C4
Commercialization, for the 335th Signal Command’s forward mission in
Afghanistan supporting Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. She
commanded the 505th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade (TTSB), Las Vegas,
NV, providing echelons above corps communications support for assigned
areas and mobilization support for the 335th Signal Command (Theater)’s
enduring missions in Southwest Asia. Recently she completed a 15-month
deployment in Kuwait serving as the Commanding General of the 335th
Signal Command (Theater), providing world-class communications support
to the Warfighter throughout South West Asia.
Brig.
Gen. Jones’ military education includes completion of the U.S. Army
Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College. Her
civilian education includes a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies;
Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Psychology from Saybrook University,
San Francisco, California.
Among
her many military awards are the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal,
Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement
Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal,
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and
the NATO Medal.
Doctor
Jones’ civilian accomplishments include 25 years as a peace officer
with the California Department of Corrections. She is the owner and CEO
of Indian Hill Land Company, LLC, Beaufort, S.C. Her company supports
rural communities through land acquisition and development, construction
and leasing of affordable housing.
