BLACK SOCIAL HISTORY: BLACK SOLDIERS CONTRIBUTION TO THE SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR OF 1898:

Its no surprise that war impact on Black African American was the fact that they were sympathetic with the plight of the Cubans as majority of the rebels were Black. Talk about fighting and freeing poor Black Cubans and of the Spanish brutality of Cubans and the murdered of  thousands and the stavering  of thousands. The question was! But was America better then Spain? she not only has subjects in her very midst who are murdered daily without a trial of a Judge or Jury.Has she not done nothing when Black men, women and children are Lynched all because of the color of heir skin, whose children are half fed and half clothed all because their fathers skin is Black. was four Black

So without doubt the first Regiment sent to Cuba was four Black Regiments as the advocates of the war maintained that the Black Man participation in the military efforts would win respect from whites and therefore enhance his status at home. In one of the Battles the Rough Riders were in deep trouble when one of the Black Regalement came to their rescue, and one of the Rough Rider Officer stated that if these super Black Soldiers who fought like lion and such bravery they would have been wiped out. Five Black Soldiers won The Congressional Medal Of Honor and many more won Certificates of Merit.
