Black Players in American Football depends on the professional league. The National Football League which evolved from the first professional league. The American Professional League a rival league from the 1960 through 1969 which eventually merged with the NFL. The early years it is believed to be first black professional football player and this Black Dude played for the Shelby Blues from 1902 to 1906 a two sport athlete was paid for his work beginning in 1904. After 1926 all five of the black players that were still in the subsequent National Football League left the league. Several teams were kicked out of the league that year and with a large number of available, talented white player would pop up on a team.
In 1933 the NFL had two black players and its regarded as the last year of integration. This is because known as the lock out years. George Preston Marshall in 1032 openly refused to have black players in his team the Boston Braves and Washington Redskin and it is believe he pressured the rest of the league to follow suit. The great depression and increase in racism and segregation and internal politics played a large part in this Keep Blacks Out.
