BLACK SOCIAL HISTORY: STEREO TYPING OF BLACK PEOPLE - THE WATERMELON STEREOTYPING:

The Watermelon Stereotyping of Black People i a white people belief that Black People have a particular weakness for watermelon that it is one of the food they like best. Stereotyping goes back at least 200 years to the Slave Trade and Slavery, times we have pictures of it that go back at least to the 1890s and continues all the way down to the present day. You see it in the poetry of Carl Sandberg from 1918 -

" Why do I always think of NIGGERS and BUCK-AND-WING dancing whenever I see Watermelon "

It also rear its ugly head in racist jokes up till today. What so  sad is that some of the pictures shows the Shell  Advert, and a few others as serious stock photos. Black People do not in fact eat more watermelon than white people and watermelon is not even a case of a food that is common in the American South or a cheap food most common among the poor. In fact its most commonly eaten in the West in the suburbs and by middle class people. China grows and eat far more watermelon than any other nation on earth , why its link so badly with Black People is the Slave Trade and Slavery and Racial Stereotyping.
