BLACK                SOCIAL               HISTORY                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Kingsley Cooper is credited with launching the careers of Jamaican-born models Jaunel McKenzie and Carla Campbell among others, and his Caribbean Fashion Week is the leading fashion event in the Caribbean. His work has been recognised with an Lifetime Achievement Award at Caribbean Fashion Rocks!, New York’s signature event for Caribbean fashion and models.
Chairman and CEO of Pulse Model Agency, Cooper founded the company in 1980 with Hilary Phillips. Over the years, he built Pulse into a fashion/entertainment industry powerhouse and an icon in Jamaican and Caribbean style, representing some of the world’s foremost models. In 2001, Pulse conceived, organised and produced the inaugural Caribbean Fashion Week. Described by British Vogue as “one of the important new trends in world fashion,” CFW has become widely acclaimed, and is seen in over 150 countries via the Fashion TV channel.
Pulse started as a promoter for prodigious talent in the fashion and entertainment industry, the type of talent that is well endowed within the borders of Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. The Directors of the Company recognize that the unique beauty, culture and talent of the Caribbean is one of its comparative advantages to the rest of the world.
In fulfilling this mandate Pulse has continued to produce outstanding fashion models and to grow its model management business locally and internationally. The Company has also managed to successfully marry its fashion know-how with a newer focus on television, event production and real estate investments.
