BLACK SOCIAL HISTORY : GERMANY FIGHT FOR ITS EAST AFRICAN COLONIES DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR : 1914 TO 1918 :

The European First World War from 1914  to  1918 came to East Africa even though the German Governor and the British Governor of East Africa Colonies that belong to these two countries has promise to adhere to the Congo Act 1886 which states that in the event of a full scale European War these colonies will not take part in any hostility of any kind and will remain neutral till the end of the war. But like all European treaties itwill be broken in due cause  and it was the British who broke the undertaking when on 5th August 1914 troops from the Uganda protectorate assaulted German river out post near Lake Victoria and on 8th August a direct Naval attack commence when two Royal Navy War ships bombarded Dar es Salaam from several miles off shores.






























The East African Colonies were at full scale war with each other, gun boats on the Lakes attacking river out post and a make shift German Tug Boat is armed with a gun on its bow which is used to attack British Lakes out post. The British response by arming there three Lake ships which is then use to trap the German Gun Boat and the German promtelly scuttle the tug boat and escape inland. The East African Campaign of the first world war has began.
