1936 - Johnson graduated from High School and was offered a scholarship to the University of Chicago,
but could not afford the University expenses, so he decline the place, but Henry Pace the owner of Supreme Life Insurance Company who happen to have had Johnson making a speech offered him
a job in his company as an Office Boy which he accepted.
1942 - Johnson launched The Negro Digest and was published that year. With valuable marketing expertise
the circulation reached 50,000 within six months.
After several decades The Negro Digest name was changed to Black World.
Johnson next publication was " Ebony " this was a run away publication success as it sold 25,000
copies in its initial run. It success was due to the positive images of African American.
1950 - Johnson launched "Tan" a True Confession Type Magazine.
1951 - Johnson launched "Jet" a weekly news digest.
Johnson other intrest included Chairperson and Chief Executive of Supreme Life Insurance
Company. He developed a line of Cosmetics, purchase three radio station, started a book
publishing company, and a Television Production Company, served on the Board of Directors
of several major companies and business including the Greyhound Corporations.
